living the life

i'm sitting here watching the MuchMusic Video Awards and, for the first time, i'm actually not ashamed of the Canadian music industry as much as i had been in the past. it seems as though MuchMusic, and hence the MMVAs, have finally gotten some cred. it is a little strange tho to think that someone as "famous" as Paris Hilton would come to this little Toronto awards show to be on screen for a whole 2 minutes.

but at the same time, does anyone find it alarming that in order to gain this cred and popularity amongst its target audience, CHUM has to go and create an Americanized award show, with about 80% American bands and only about 20% Canadian and further this growing teenage mantra that Canadian music content is crap, and even the Canadian music channel thinks so too?

don't get me wrong, i think its great that Canada has finally gotten to a point where at least *one* of our "many" award shows has gotten some cred, but maybe it's more harmful than good..

and on that note, i talked to the Human Resources Director of the CBC today for like 20 minutes and she recommended jobs that i should apply for after i graduate. in the words of brendan, "jealous??...thought so....."
